Sweet Home 3D — Interior Design

I used Google Sketchup to build simple 3D model before; it’s an awesome software to build a single 3D object with ease and efficiency.  Nonetheless, if you are going to plan your room or even your house ahead before everything is settled, Google Sketchup might not be the hero for you. I am going to introduce a free software for you, it’s a 3D interior design software on multi-platform (including Windows, Macintosh and Linux 32bit & 64bit) called Sweet Home 3D. This software is incredibly easy to use and that is great for people like me who doesn’t have much 3D modeling background.

–Glance at the Interface

The interface is extremely simple and straight forward. The window is divided into four different sections:

  • The top left section contains a bunch of objects that might come in handy when you plan for your room.
  • The top right section is the 2D view of your room; it’s very similar to the blue print.
  • The bottom left section is the detail info of the object your place in your 3D planning.
  • The bottom right section is the 3D view of your planning; you can move and rotate in this 3D view section.

–Plan your room

Using the software is as easy as the interface, all you need to do is choose what you want to do in Menu Bar–>Plan; you could create walls, rooms and choose your dimensions. Once your setup your base, you can starting putting your favorite furniture.

At the time of writing this post, I haven’t finished up my dream room planning yet, but you can take a look at the gallery of others’ work online at Sweet Home 3D’s official site.

–Post Note

The price of houses in lots of places around the world is getting higher and higher, and I don’t see the sign of slowing down. The new house owners might not be able to afford big houses that are spacious. A well planned room could help us using limited space wisely.

Sweet Home 3D comes in different versions for Macintosh, Windows, Linux and even web (with Java installed).  You can give it a try and show me your art work. :)
