Review: Gunnar eSport Eyeglasses
By rockia on Jan 11, 2010 with Comments 2
I received two sample pairs of Gunnar eSport amber lenses from Compu2000. The two I received are both GUNNAR eSport Collection MLG Phantom amber lenses, one in Mercury and other one in Gloss Onyx color.
The glasses makes everything appear more yellow because of the coatings on the lens. This is a plus because colors on the screen blend together a bit more and it’s not as harsh on your eyes. The design is convenient because it is design to resemble a typical pair of glasses. It is light weight and convenient to store. The handles are very flexible and will fit most users very comfortably. On another note, the Gunnar eSport amber lenses do distort the angles of images so that everything appears to curve towards the viewer. Although the company supports that this feature is to help you see better, the eye and brain does take some time to adjust to the altered angles. When looking around the room with these glasses on, it might cause some slight dizziness due to the distortions.
When you put on the glasses, you could feel the screen is a bit further to you than the actual distance and thus your eye muscles will relax down in order to focus on the “further away” object. The way it distorts the image will actually let your eyes blink more to keep them more moisturized.
I am studying Computing Engineering at SFU; as well, web programming is one of my interest when I am out of school. Basically I spend hours and hours in front of my computer screens every day. I normally have dry eyes and headache very easily after continuous use of computers for more than 2 hours; that’s when Advil is needed in order to keep working on my computer stuffs. After trying the Gunnar eye-wear for more than two days, I surprisingly find it really helps to reduce my head pain and the uptight eyes muscle and my work efficiency was enhanced.
Pros:
- The glasses are designed to be very fashionable; even if you are not using it every day, it’s a nice gadget to have on your computer desk.
- The glasses really helps you when you need to spend long time using computers.
- Eye-wear is light weight and the handles are quite flexible.
Cons:
- Not convenient for users who have glasses already.
- At first you might feel a bit dizzy if you are not used to the changes due to the image distortion.
