[Update] BumpTop has been been acquired by Google, so this software is no longer available for sale. For more info, please visit http://www.bumptop.com .
I once heard that the computer is going to be 3D in near future, not just the screen technology will enhance so that you could see 3D images with or without 3D glasses, but also the system is going to be 3D. How does it work? Today I am going to introduced this application for you. If you are really into cool stuffs, this application BumpTop is just the very software you couldn’t miss.
The installation is very straight forward. Like many other applications, simply mount up the .dmg file and drag the application onto your “Applicaitons” folder; double click it and it will run.
You can grab the software from BumpTop’s official site, the standard version is free yet you have the option to upgrade it to the Pro version for only US $29.
Before we take a look at the settings, let’s take a look at the Demo video:
Basically, it’s like looking into a box, you have your main desktop and four “walls” to put your stuffs on. You can have a wall for all your sticky notes, one wall for all your photos, one wall for all your documents and so on. To switch to a different wall or back to your desktop, just simply double click it.
You can pile up the files according to their file type or you can simply group them to your own preference and organize them better. You can also move them around to fit your working habit the most.
Just like your desktop wallpaper, you can assign different wallpaper to each side of your “3D” desktop.
Just click on the name of the side, like “Back”, then you will be asked to choose a picture for it.
Even though BumpTop is just an app to organize your files on your desktop virtually instead of turning your Mac OS into a real 3D system, it really gives us a feeling how 3D system might look like in the near future. Plus, it’s a very fun application to have on your Mac, isn’t it?
If you like the software, you could consider upgrade it to the Pro version to support the future development of this software; meanwhile, you can also set it run as the system starts up so you will have a “3D” desktop every time you boot up your Mac.
