Who moved my hard disk space — Check your folders’ size instantly on Mac

As time goes by, the hard disk space left is decreasing. You probably don’t know what files you put in your hard drive, but eventually you get noticed by your Mac OS that your hard drive is almost full. It’s hard to not question yourself, where is your hard disk space go?
I really understand how it feels; it’s just like you still assume you have lots bills in your pocket, but it turns out only some changes left around the end of the month. You will ask yourself, what did I spend my money I got at the beginning of the month on?
Well, back to the our Mac OS, most of the time, our songs, photos and movies will take most of the space other than the major applications. We can easily check the size of each folder by using “Command + I” (or right click and choose “Get Info”). However, I found it really troublesome if I have to spend half an hour by doing the same thing just to know the size of each folder, and I will probably forget after doing it for 10 minutes.

OmniDiskSweeper is a freeware for you to see where your space went. It basically lists all the folders in your hard disk and tell you the size of them. If you don’t want any specific folders or files, you can just delete them right there.
This software is a bit slow, yet it’s free and easy to use; the creator of it announced it’s Snow Leopard compatible, so it’s not a bad idea to just give it a try.
There is another option and I really like this software, it’s called whatsize. Just opposite to OmniDiskSweeper, whatsize was a freeware, not turn into a shareware, but it does come with many handy functions.
With whatsize, you can delete useless files you never knew like they never existed and you can delete unnecessary nib files created during development. Unlike OmniDiskSweeper, whatsize really gives you a full report on your hard disk size by showing you detail pie chart.
For whatsize, you can still use it for free up to 20GB size, but it will cost $12.99 US if you want full features access.
